Nextcloud Talk is the chat, voice and video layer of Nextcloud. Conversations live next to your files. Calls are peer-to-peer end-to-end encrypted, with an optional High-Performance Backend (HPB) for larger meetings, screen sharing, recordings and dial-in via SIP.
Most "unified collaboration" tools quietly route every message and call through a US-controlled cloud. Talk runs on the same Nextcloud instance that already holds your files, so a meeting, the shared document and the chat thread about it all live in one place — under your control, in your jurisdiction.
Capabilities
End-to-end encrypted calls
1:1 and small group calls are E2EE by default. The server brokers the connection but never sees the media stream.
Persistent chat and threads
Channels, direct messages, threads, mentions, reactions, file attachments — searchable history that lives next to your files.
Meetings with screen share and recording
With the High-Performance Backend you get scalable meetings, screen sharing, server-side recording, breakout rooms and SIP dial-in.
Federated by design
Talk to other Nextcloud instances without creating accounts on each one — your partners and customers stay on their own servers.
